What is this thing called. I need one, cause i have a cord that is disfunctional b/c it is missing one.

EDIT: It is pointing to the BLACK RING

BTW: Does anybody know if i could use something else?

its a black o ring. anything circular and small is considered an o ring by my definition. just buy a new cable.

I have new ones, i was just wondering if I could fix a perfectly good cable for real cheap.

...I thought that ring was actually a flared end of the sleeve that's inside...

it's just a plastic spacer that doesn't conduct signal meant to electrically separate the tip from the barrel of the plug.

^Yeah, but shouldn't the whole assembly be made up of sleeves that slide into each other from the rear? I'm guessing it'll make no difference if it's a flared sleeve or non-flared sleeve with a ring, but I just don't think I've ever seen one with a ring.

Can't remember. Been a while since I had one apart. My headphone plugs have two though (they're stereo)
