Here in Sweden we get free lunch at school from the age we start untill we graduate from the gymnasium (age 18).

I was wondering, just out of curiosity how this is in different countries, with different wellfare systems etc.

our lunch costs 1.65 when i was in highschool. .40 if you are poor (like myself) then free if you are below the poverty line. The food was killer though.

In Canada you have to pay for your lunch. The foods good but only the only kids that have money to buy it seem to be a little on the chunky side.
You may have a 10 x 10 stack of marshalls and i may only have one, but mine goes to 11.... Beat that

Standard lunch costs $2.50, the bigger one is $3.75. I could get free lunch if I wanted to because my father is a single parent, but I choose not to.

School sponge puddings were excellent, but the majority of people in the UK have to pay for them.

Here in Norway we don't have any free food at the schools. Seems a bit odd when we're so rich and stuff, but we've got a tradition of bringing lunch packs from day one anyways. And in tertiary school (probably somewhat equivalent to the last 3 years of high school) people run off and buy food at Starbucks anyways.
I'm a communist. Really.

My school food wasn't fit for human consumption. Yet everyone but myself always ate it.

You must be rich if your school kids can afford to buy food in starbucks.

As if the coffee wasn't over-priced enough the food is astronomical.

School food = radioactive. I still eat it though...and brijng in extra junk to snack on.

Surprisingly, i'm not fat.

It's a bit better than canadian polar bear, but I heard their penguin can be a little gamey if you're not used to it.

Yeah, actually they're both pretty gamey when compared to beef; You can really taste the wilderness in their meat.

Penguin is delicious. Kind of like chicken, but gamey chicken.

Polar bear with lingonberry jam = Heaven.

Nope just bring my own lunch to school.. You can buy something at school but it like 2 euros for one sandwich >.>
#25
Don't eat at school. We get out at 2:10 normally or 1:10 on Wednesdays so I just eat at home. Saves cash.
Oh Shit!
#26
We have to pay for ours but it's only about £1.40.

At my old high school we used to mix the gravy with the rice or mashed potatoes. We could then patch holes in walls or ceilings; even glue chairs to the floors, no lies.

Ok, it wasn't that bad... it still sucked tho. We could either bring our own lunch for free (lol) or spend like 2 or 2.50 for the school lunch.

we have a canteen with 6 stores, each selling differnet kind of food ... noodles/rice/malay food/ indian food/ ... and we BUY the food with our own money. same layout for all schools in singapore (at lest the govt. schools)

unless you are on financial aid, they are given pocket money

Aye, we have to pay for ours, but the poorer kids get it for nowt. I mostly don't eat at the school, the food is rank and overpriced so I head down the street.
