hey im sure this has been done before but a quick search didnt find anything.

can anyone give me names of bands who combine indie with punk?

i know quite a lot would be just classed as alternative or something but you know what i mean.

like with the 'rock and punk bands' thread, it would be good to have quite a large list of bands so that people can use it for reference.

cheers

Wire, Television and Richard Hell and the Voidoids are the ones that I associate with both sounds.

The Hives do this kinda. Indie-ish guitar sounds, but with punk's energy, simplicity, and vocals kinda.

I love the Black Lips but I don't think I'd ever want to see them due to things I've heard about vomiting, urinating, nudity, band members kissing, fireworks, and a chicken all happening on stage.

I'm kind of a wuss

how about The Thermals...

How about absolutely.

The Futureheads are really great, as well. I second the Rakes and the Hives, and there's Gang Of Four, Maximo Park, the Young Knives, Pixies, Superchunk, Art Brut, the Cribs, Mission Of Burma, and stuff.

And of course, the Strokes. They're insanely catchy post-punk.

Not sure what you're looking for, really, but check out:
The Slits, The Soft Boys, The Fall, Television, Gang of Four, The Pop Group, Mission of Burma, Joy Division...

most post-punk really. It's what those British 'indie' bands are trying to sound like.

Pssh, Post-Modern Sounds, their singer sounds like he's eating a microphone.

They sound like the Arctic Monkeys, but worse, if that's possible
