Didn't George Harrison do a Piratey song? I think it was just called the "Pirate Song."

Can we ask why? It's gotta be cool!

Just look for old sea shantys and play the chords/melody on guitar instead of singing the lyrics/melody?

Agreed. Old sea shanties are the best way to go. There really isn't any literature on "pirate music", so your best bet would be to start there.
Sincerely, Chad.

Swashbuckling sea songs:

That's actually a very cool collection for stuff like that.

This isn't quite as neat, almost sounds like a background music soundtrack:

I figured he wanted period-correct "pirate" and "whaling" tunes. That's just regurgitated Disney crap.

The one example he gave that he liked was also in fact regurgitated Disney crap. (pirates of the caribbean theme) Our views of pirates are all Disney-like anyway, I imagine they weren't exactly a real happy bunch with great musical skills. It's not like you're going to find much authentic pirate music that is going to sound "piratey".

Precisely, but as far as the time-frame is concerned, very early sea shanties and whaling tunes would be just fine.

"A Pirate looks at 40" is a great acoustic song and not too hard to play. The Pirates are also my favorite baseball team!

People back in those days of UG were so stupid. Yeah, Irish punk sounds just like pirates. Then again, considering how people are still responding to the OP as if itwasn't from years ago show that there has not really been an improvement.

Not sure if this is to your taste, but hey it's acoustic and got a pirate vibe going.

No pirate feel whatsoever. In fact, I'm not quite sure how you could even think there is. Also thank you for reminding me how much I hate percussive open note tapping guitar.
There's no such thing; there never was. Where I am going you cannot follow me now.

This thread is strange. I didn't even notice how old it was at first haha

I wasn't a fan of that Thomas Leeb video. Like Kristen, I didn't get a pirate vibe from it. Didn't really enjoy it either... the percussion was well done, but the actual playing didn't do anything for me.
My God, it's full of stars!

It's like, if you take away the percussion, the actual guitar playing is very lacking. There are a few vaguely connected licks that don't really flow well. It reminds me when you have somebody that is new to fingerpicking and has a couple of solid licks go use when improvising, but is unable to fill in the gaps smoothly.
