Hey everyone. So I got the wood to build my cabinet that will go with the 5150 I just picked up. Now the only thing left is to decide what size speakers to get, would I be better off with 4X12 or 4X10? I've heard that 10s would be better because 12s can get "honky" or "farty" but would 12s give me a bigger sound? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks everyone!

If over all bottom is what your looking for I would sat 12's I have a 610 old ampeg cabinet that I use for rock and the blues and that sounds amazing. Go play some different cabs and see what you like.

IIRC, 12s have better bass response, whereas 10s have a more mid- and high-oriented punch.

10's tend not to mud up at high volumes, but can't handle bass frequencies as well.
I like 10's better for some reason. Maybe because I play lead, and I need those crucial mids.
Maybe a 10" cab and 12" cab seperately?

Could I mix them perhaps? 2X12 and 2X10?

12's on the bottom for the bass responce and 10s on the top so you don't get screachy highs
