So who's your favourite modern guitarist, by modern I mean some one who has emerged within the last 10 years or so.

I'd have to say John Butler.

You?

Not really. I mean, it's 2008, and he said guitarists active in the last 10 years, making the earliest active guitarist from 1998 and beyond.

So, sure, SOME 90s guitarists, but not all of them, obviously.

How is it a fail?

And I didn't look them up. I've just been listening to them long enough to know.

Yeah, Petrucci is still active, and releasing new material. He counts, IMO.

Sorry to the guys to who said Petrucci...

Yeah but you can't really say some one who released their first material more than 10 years ago is modern, granted they still have a place alongside modern guitarists but that doesn't make them 'modern'.

Oh yeah I'd like to add Omar Rodriguez Lopez to my list.

Meh, IMO, if they're still active, and didn't get their claim to fame sometime in the 80s or 70s, then they're still a moden guitarist.

But, not my thread, not my rules.

Mike Einziger.

He was active longer than 10 years ago, but he never really got enough credit until Morning View was released.
