Hi Everyone,

My friends and my teacher says that Ernie ball strings are no good and I should stay the hell away from them because they are brittle and easy top break.

Is any of this true?

I really hope not because I want to get some 10-48's extra heavy

What the hell is he talking about, I've been using .11-46 Ernie Balls and they're the best sounding strings I've ever had.

DR's are the way to go, they never break and they just have better tone in general.

Ernie Ball = Win.
Never had a problem with them.
Last a fair while, don't sound 'bad' either.
They sound like strings.
And they come in an awesome packet (hot pink in my case)

Different colour = Different gauge.
The hot pink one is for Super Slinkies (.42-.09)
There's Pink, Orange, Greeny-Yellow, Dark Orange/Red, Purple, Bright Yellow, Teal, Blue and possibly some others.
They all represent different gauges.
.11-.48 is purple (which is closest to what you asked for)

My room is scattered with Pink and Teal packets (.09-.42 & .13-.56)
They last a fair while, I just don't clean up.

Your teacher's an idiot if he thinks that...

If they were the worst brand of strings ever, how do they manage to sell so well? Supply & Demand. They're cheap efficient strings and they last generally long if you don't abuse them. I have about 16 packets of Ernie Ball strings 10-46 and I've always used them, I've tried D'Addarios and I prefer the feel of Ernie Ball strings.

Your teacher may not like the feel of Ernie Ball strings but calling them the worst strings ever is ignorant.

Just wondering, why are you saying extra heavy? Aren't those hybrid slinkys or slinkys? The Beefy Slinkys are the heavy ones.

Ernie Ball Super Slinky is the only string I will use on any of my electric guitars. I buy them by the box and blow through them in a year.

Ernie Ball strings are really good. When I need new strings, I always buy Ernie Ball strings. They last a while, and I've never had any problems with them whatsoever.
#30
I swear by d'addarios but when i was using ernie balls, i never had a problem with them. If people are busting strings it can be chalked up to either improper playing (digging with the pick to much, bending further than the string should be bent, etc), or faulty hardware. if there are improper angles on the strings or a sharp edge on the bridge, it can reduce string life significantly, as well as improper winding..

once inawhile tho, you will simply get a factory reject.

I use the same strings and they are the most amazing things your fingers will ever touch, whether guitar related or not.....Seriously, Ernie Ball strings are like the best.....And DR Strings are pretty good....I use the Dimebag DR s and I like them alot too....They have a guage for them that is almost the same size as the Skinny Top Heavy Bottoms....Love them both....And from musician's friend ernie balls are pretty cheap so go ahead and try them out
