Yep, buy used.
Erm...
For that price, you may need to save up more for a proper metal amp.

^ It's still not going to sound as good as an amp that is for heavy metal

A distortion pedal through a clean amp's clean channel isn't gonna sound as good as the dedicated channel on a metal amp

the only good fender amp thats close to anything metal thats cheap and is a tube amp
is the Super 60 there 60 watts wonderful clean chanel chimey or fat or whatever the **** you want really and on the dirty channel it just kills the Hotrod deluxe just abolustely blows it out of the watter i have one and with an OD pedal or a MEtal Muff
your set for life
could also do some blues on the dirty channel with the gain at about 3 or 4
very versatile EQ and relatively cheap on Ebay

personally it think they suck alot out of the factory because there loaded with groove tubes if you change the tube on those it might sound bettor but still not what your looking for
But as i said before your looking at the B-52AT thats your amp right there for what your looking to do mainly

^ Only like 1 person. The rest is just the typical bandwagon thing, like Blackhearts were a few months ago

I was in the same situation as you for 500 bucks, and i got a used triple xxx which i love for metal, classic rock and full clean sounds. Those bugeras look nice from the specs and how they're supposed to be clones of some peavey amps like the 5150 but i am not gonna trust them until lots more people get them lol.
