so...i have my left handed epiphone les paul 100, and i dont really like it. so im thinkin about doing some work on it, but i haven't done this before. so what i want to do is repaint it to look like a les paul version of eddie's guitar, maybe some new pickups when i get the money, and prolly other things.. so i wouldnt mind some ideas or suggestions. thanks.

so...now how do i go about painting it? i know first you take off the knobs and stuff...since i do, do i have to take the stopbar and bridge off?
#9
k...thanks. so, since its going to be a EVH les paul, how do i go about putting the stripes on?
#10
first spray down your first color (lightest first). Then get some random sizes of masking tape and lay down stripes in random positions. Spray on the next color. Then mask off some more colors and paint it again (unless you're only using two colors.)

thanks...so would i would do the same for the headstock, right? and also, what do i paint the back of the neck?

EVH actually had a les paul. See, after he left kramer, ALL the big guitar companies made a guitar with the stripes to try to get him to sign an endorsement deal w/ them. Gibson was one of these companies, here is said Les Paul (Custom).

no actually he used les pauls way before kramers or strats. But his bandmates later told him that the les paul wasn't "heavy enough sounding". So he got a strat and put the bridge gibson humbucker from his les paul into his new creation which gave him his unique guitar tone.

Firstly he used strats, but the sound was too thin, then he used a les paul but he didnt like the feel and weight of the gibson so much; he wanted a humbucking gibson sound with the feel and weight of a strat! so he decided to put the humbucker from a ES-335 into the bridge of a scrap charvel strat style body and set-up with a floyd rose. It was this guitar, his immense playing and heavy equalisation that gave him his signature guitar tone(s)

yeah...anyways back on topic...im planning on maybe painting it black with purple and white stripes. so i might be goin to guitar center this weekend...and ive got a few things i wanna buy, and i got some questions. what kind of tuning heads? i dont want real expensive ones, but some nice ones. also what kind of knobs do u guys think would look nice? and last, will gibson stuff like control plates work on my epiphone?
#19
oh yeah...one other thing...i need one more volume knob...but how do i know which one to buy cause on the GC website there is like 4 different ones...

Yes, Eddie did have a les paul, goldtop I belive, with the neck humbucker ripped out prior to building the frankie. But going on what you are claiming, then explain WHY the guitar has "5150" on it, when Eddie didn't start putting "5150" on his guitars until 1984?

well...i went to GC and got a volume pot...which was too big. so i had to drill the hole a bit bigger. i also got some black top hat knobs, which dont fit on the old volume pots...but i does fit on the new one...jeez. why cant gibson and epiphone parts be the same? and they had some tuning machines there...for $112. so im going to order some off the GC website. and one more thing...how do u guys think a bigsby look?

EDIT: do bigsby's even come left handed?

Thanks for the reply, I was considering buying those and I probably will now.
Are they easy to use being locking?

TS, do you have any pics of the guitar and parts you got?
Also, a Bigsby on a crazy paint job in my mind may look sort of mish mashed. Do as you wish though.

thanks for all the suggestions. so right now i have to whole guitar torn down. but im thinking about having a local car painter to paint it so its really nice. do u guys think thats a better idea than me painting it?

They're probably easier than normal tuners. You just put the string through the top hole, bend it 90 degrees, put them through the other hole and tune
