So what do you guys think of this amp? See it here.
Personally, I like it. I've even been looking into getting one. So what do you guys think? Positives/Negatives of it? And the white is just gorgeous.

for the price marshall charges you could get a ballin boutique amp and not have to pay for logo/ cosmetics/artist signature(though he's dead so wtf)

Unless you're ready to pay somewhere around $4k, I wouldn't get it. You're paying for white tolex and his name. Randy was a killer player, but his tone was nothing special. you could get a Splawn just like that for probably $2,000.

Never tried one

I really want to try one before I buy it, but they aren't out yet. I have the chance to reserve one, the only one I can find. Nobody is getting them in/or they have all been reserved.

But as for Splawn, never heard of them. I'll have to check them out. Thanks!

It's more like $4700 - $5000 for the full stack. Randy was an awesome player. White tolex is sexy. His tone is what I'm looking for (for the most part), and Ill check out splawns.

If you're looking to sound like Randy, this would not be the amp to do it. It's just a beefed up Super Lead with white tolex. I can only see deranged Rhoads fans (like me! ) buying one.

If you're looking at this for the white tolex, just get one made. This amp is not going to be cheap.

That thing is beautiful. And yeah, I agree with acdcrocks.

I really, REALLY want to play a Splawn.

That is sexy, cheaper, and will sound the same or maybe better.

My lord. That is beautiful.....

Bahh, I just check. Splawn amps seem near impossible to find. I'm gonna look into it more, and call some places tomorrow.
But the sound of the 1959RR was just incredible in the youtube videos I've seen of it...I'm not looking to get his sound exactly, just something like what I've heard.

lol at how one thread made everyone want to get a splawn.

I guess this is how the orange phase was.

Well I still want the Rhoads amp, but Im considering the splawn. Oh well...
Anyone else got any opinions or such on it?
#23
I am basing my bias on that video. I bet it sounds better in person, but the video sounds like a fuzz box...

if your really want that amp another thing to consider would be a marshall clone, and a custom head cab. Would end up sounding (and looking) basically the same since it would be based on the same amp the RR is based on. But would probably cost far less.
#27
Ceriatone has a super lead clone, there are others I just can't remember any atm. if you look up plexi clones you should be able to find a couple. Ceriatone uses good parts but the shipping will be fairly steep.
Theres a few company's that make custom head cabs too. splawn does I know, I think the plexi replica ones are like $200.
#28
Hmmm,
they look decent.
Still not convinced though, lol.
I really do like the Rhoads one for some reason...
#29
All it it is a 1959 model Plexi with a cascade mod and that mod is very simple and cheap to do.

Alright, let's level with each other then. So, even though the other amps most likely sound better, you don't want them. It's not the looks either because that Splawn had white tolex so it must be...

THE MARSHALL LOGO!

Seriously, check out the other amps, they'll most like like sound better and will probably be half the price.

Meh if it was the logo, I'd just buy one and put it on the splawn white tolex myself. It's a matter of finding splawn around here =/.

Well any other suggestions?
I know his tone wasn't amazing, but I do like what I heard in the video...
#38
man if i was you id have a real hard think about weather you want to buy an amp like that cuase if your tastes change its going to be a bitch you could maybe look at an amp that can get close to randys sound and that is versitile so you can always change tone cause when it comes down to it youll find what you want isnt the same as his tone you might want a tighter low end or more compressed sound or more gain
