some advice....

if you want to talk about giving up guitar and learning bass, don't give us a 15 line rant on why you like falloutboy and metalcore and how we shouldn't judge you. You should know by now that won't happen. People will judge you. Unfavorably.

EDIT: although now that i think of it, you might get off easy if you post in the middle of the night.

Learn the theme to Shaft. Great part for bass.

there is a higher guitarist-to-bassist ratio
so if you play bass it'll be eeasier to find a band i guess

Just go for it. It's not like you have to be one or the other, if you pick up bass you don't have to abandon all your guitar playing skills.

SO if Janne and Alexi did a gay porn, would I be the only one willing to buy it?

That's a dumb question, you know everyone in here would buy it too. I know I would!

as a bass/guitar/drum player I can say try em all....its a good idea if you REALLY want to stick with music.
And about metalcore and FoB I say ROCK ON! listen to what YOU want NOT what others say is good. Look at me iam a jrock fan haha 90% of ug hate it or have no idea what it is!

Peace

Yeah!? Well Shaft doesn't like Fall out Boy fans.

I'm just joking. But anyway, pick up the drums or something. More people would be looking for a drummer than a guitarist or bass player anyway.

Or better yet, harmonica.

I love you =] I can't say I was very fond of you when we first started talking because you trolled the hell out of my threads, but after talking to you here I've grown very attached to you.

Yeah, write to my fanclub about it, honey.

You go inspired to play bass from FoB?!

...

I'm confused.
There ain't no moral to this story at all. Anything I tell you very well could be a lie.

That's what I got from it, and it made less sense to me than Russian does.

I don't rag on the mainstream, I rag on stuff I don't like. For example, I love the Used. Meanwhile, I will still rag on various other bands in that genre.

It's got nothing to do with mainstream. It's got to do with the fact that FoB has some of the least inspiring bass this side of Johnny Cash.

Just put aside the guitars and amps and start slapping and popping away.

yes. because we all know that as soon as you pick up a bass you can magically just start slapping and popping like a pro.

DO NOT PICK UP THE BASS

There is that clear enough, put it back down. Keep goin at what your doin, try writing lyrics to your songs or try thinking of drums for them. Get out there and look for other musicians to jam with, you don't have to be in a band to jam with other musicians. Just do it for fun.

OK... tell me what FOB has to do with metalcore?
Popping and slapping isn't FOB for sure, sounds more like Flea...
Well, if you rather play bass, then go ahead it's your choice.

Oh, yeah picking up bass would be such a travesty.

Seriously, if you want to broaden your musical boundaries, go ahead. Just don't go all mid-life crisis-like and sell all of your old gear. It's not illegal to play more than one instrument.
