i guess i need a guitar cable which has an red and an white output and 1 guitar input

It depends, if you need the mobility go with the fast track, if not go with the 2496.

Both are good pieces of hardware in my opinion.

I'm familiar with the 2496 so I can't offer any real input besides that.

Well, it is a better soundcard. Its not exactly a recording interface. It works in a different way from the fastrack. It doesn't have simple XLR and 1/4" inputs and outputs. It has those red and white coaxial inputs and outputs.
Its not exactly a recording interface. To record guitars and all you'ld need to use it with an I/O recording interface converter like this one: http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/Delta44-main.html

I say save the hassle and get an e oxternal USB or Firewire powered recording interface like the Fastrack or something else.
