My guitar instructor teaches at community college and a U of H. She knows a good deal about competitions, scholarships, etc. I'm not trying to brag or anything, but she's studied under really big names in classical guitar, and she really has an idea about the teachers and schools in the area, and what it takes to get into a school.

Well, I'm in my senior year of high school. I definitely am doing just one year of community college here at home. Then I plan on going to college. I'm going to be doing competition(s) this summer, and it's sort something I have to do. I don't like the idea of competing, but it's a necessary thing to do for school.

The problem is that I live in Houston, and after community college (where I can get a guitar credit), there really isn't that much to do with classical guitar. The closest thing is in Austin, at UT. But I really would prefer a conservatory, that way I don't hve to worry about classes that are irrelevant to music, like Math, Science, etc. Plus I'm not that big on Austin, TX.

My teacher said San Francisco's Conservatory of Music is really good, and they have 4 notable guitar instructors there.

The thing is, though, it's hard for me to imagine going that far away from home and family. My brother took college in Houston and my sister is, too. I don't know if I could go that far away. But I can't even begin to tell you how much I love California. I've been to San Francisco (about 8 months ago) and I loved the city. Ever since I first went there almost 4 years ago it's been sort of my dream to live there.

What do you guys think?

Not a conservatory, but UNT in Denton(30 mins from dallas) has a really good music program.

Sometimes you have to go for it.

Personally, I would leave to California.

Madcap, unless you're a big mama's boy, I think you'll love getting away from your family for a while. It's like when you're worried about being homesick before you go to summer camp when you were a kid, but you get there and have such a good time you forget about home.

well... id say go to SF and have a blast!... youll most likely feel homesick the first few months... but experiences like that make you a stronger person (ive never felt that NEED to stoy home, if that helps, youll get over it)... and youll be doing what you love to do

i'd say go to San Francisco, you'll be able to come home sometime and it's only a few years away from home.
Now officially has too much gear to list

PM me if you want to know about my recording setup

San Fransisco has great drugs.

on topic:

I think it would be a good idea for you to go to SF. Independence will be a shock, but you'll grow much more as a person than if you were living at home (close to home, whatever).

I'm hearing a steady *thump thump* from the people above me and I need some porno grooves to play on my bass to give them some background music. Any ideas?
