i've had my output jack replaced about 3 times now by my local guitar shop and each time within 3 months it has just fizzled out and stopped working completely i'm extremly sick of wasting my money having this issue fixed so tomorrow i'm going out and buying a solderiong iron and and input jack now here are the questions

1. what kind of jack should i get?
2. about how much would a solder iron cost

1/4" guitar jack.

soldering iron kit is about $15.

hang on for pic...

your jack is probably fine. you might have just ripped a wire off of it. if it's not attached, then solder it back on and add a locking washer to the nut.

i dont know man, i guess you can get a higher quality jack. but it's just metal. inless the arm or a lug in there broke off. or unless the cable doesnt fit in there correctly, it's not a dud. you can buy a jack for anything from $2.99 and up.

if they suck at fixing things, it's mostly likely that they didnt hook it up right.

yeah, there are jacks that are better than others. but if you look at urs / insert a cable, you should be able to see if it's working or not.

What type of cable are you using. Some cable companies (cough....Monster......cough) use plugs of slightly increased size that end up wearing out certain jacks extremely fast.
