Getting a Blackheart 5w Tube amp.
What would I need to make it a little bit more higher gain...
Overdrive?
I should I just run distortion?
#3
I play metal from Black Sabbath to Slayer to Deicide.
Going for a tone on the heavier side.
#4
Can you play one?

You wuold need to have it cranked with OD to get a really heavy sound. Is that an option? THis thing is pretty loud... Maybe get a distortion if you need it at more managable levels
#5
I've seen it at my local guitar shop.
But I never tried it cause I was a n00b and thought "5 watts!? GAY."
I didn't know a thing about tubes.
I have a RP50 and i'm going to be buy a new distortion pedal soon.
But if I just set that (RP50) with a little bit of dist and cranked the amp would i get that br00tz tone?

If you put it on the recto or stack model maybe. But, don't defile tubes with digital modeling.

Well, like I said i'm looking into a new distortion pedal.
What would you recommend?
No Boss pedals please.

^Good man to stay away from boss.
I'd probably say an Electro-Harmonix Metal Muff.
Depends on your budget though, but since you would have the budget for a boss, you should be able to get the Metal Muff.

Boss pedals sound SO fake and scratchy.
Thanks man.
I'll try that setup the next time I go to the guitar shop.

Was it in a video?
If so...
Link please?

^Yeah, but isn't the uber metal digital or something?

No problem. The metal muff is great for metal. And yes, I don't like the expensive boss distortions and overdrives. I like the cheap ones because you can mod them, and they're only like 40 bucks.

^The blackheart is reasonably low gain, and I don't think a regular overdrive will push it to heavier metal. You can give the maxon distortion a shot though.

In the hiearchy of brands of pedals:

Electro-Harmonix> Boss> Digitech> Maxon+OCD> most other stuff

just remember that.

So not true...

Maybe try the Jeckyll and Hyde OD, Its got a OD and Distortion... I think that would make a nice pair with a Blackheart LG.

^^Boss and Digitech is higher than Maxon and Fulltone (OCD is the model name, not the company name)???
I'd like to see a boss OD stack up against a maxon or an OCD. Boss OD/Dists suck.

^ Yeah, I keep forgetting about the J&H. That's one cool pedal.

Boss OD/Dists suck

maybe, but boss has some sweet modulation pedals and the harmonizer they have is wonderful

( and remember, I put EH at the top. You cant deny that EH disortions and overdrives are amazing)

I'll aggree that most Boss ODs and distortions are poor, but the BD-2 is solid, and the DS-1 is one of the simplest, most reliable dirt boxes for such little coin.

That being said, I think the TS is better off with a Valvetronix or Cube, unless he plans on gigging. If you really want to gig, and are stuck under $300, a Crate Palomino V16 and an OD should do fine, and be alright for gigs (but don't expect cleans).

Palominos cost 350.
And an OD would cost about another 50 - 120.

I think he should be fine with the blackheart and a dist/OD.
The Blackheart has a reasonable amount of gain on tap, but I still consider it low gain.

If you wait until April, you can get the new BH handsome devil 15 watt, and it has a gain knob. Might help a bit.
