Hey guys,I've been thinking of getting a new guitar lately, I've narrowed it down to two guitars, the SV5470FDSB(Dark Sunset Burst) or the Fender US Deluxe HSS Strat in 3 Tone sunburst. I play mainly Blues and metal, along with loads of Satch songs as well as AX7.However, I do also play for church, so I probably can't go loads heavy. So which do you think I should go for?

i usully hate fenders and squiers and stuff but that guitar is good, only because the black version with gold pickup is theone that from Billy Talent uses, but i love Ibanez's. although this Ibanez has a really small and short body, which makes it look cheesy. That's only my opinion, for once, i'm gonna say fender, but grab urself some heavy distortion pedals, or metal pedal, idk.

wow, this is the EXACT thing i'm kinda going through. umm, it really depends on what genere really dominates your playing. do you have another guitar you already have that you can use for church? because my plan was to have my strat tuned to standard for church, and like an Ibanez S520 or schecter Hellraiser FR tuned to BTBAM tuning.

if ur gonna go with the strat, u should most definitely put a floyd rose on it, because every strat that i've had with a trem has fuqqed up on me..
i'd honestly go with the ibanez though

to be honest the quality of Fender isn't so good anymore and Ibanez has some nice models out there now a days. i have never played that model of Ibanez but have played a delux strat the tone is amazing but like i said b4 Fender is kinda goin down hill lately. I'd say go to your local music shop and jam on both for a bit and see which one fits you better.
Im gonna pistol whip the next guy that says shenanigans !!!!

I love ibanez guitars, but only the Artcores are good for blues. Go with the strat.

well the ibanez won't be too heavy for church if you adjust it right with the tone knobs and such. however the fender will probably be a lot better for the blues, and it handle metal, the ibanez will be better for thrash and speed metal. i wouldn't shop at zzounds.com tho, i usually could find better prices elsewhere. at least thats just me.

Ibanez definitely, it's more suited to the metal side of things than the strat, but it handles blues etc. very well as well
ohai little sig.

Go try them both out burt I'd go with the Fender very Versitle and then put a Floyed Rose on it hehe.
#12
go for the fender, the posts above explain why.
and please do not ruin it by putting a floyd rose on it.
Send me off to bed forevermore.

the fender of course plus i mean there is hardlya better guitar out there for blues.

Ibanez, it's awsome for metal and if you **** around with controls you would be able to find a good blues tone.

Go with the Fender. Personally I dislike the Ibanez because the Tru-Duo pickups sucks in mahogany and the new ZPS system isn't that great.

I don't know about the Deluxe thing, but the normal american fender HSS has a really hot Humbucker.

lets see:
Fender(jackson too)- A humble company that many times will sacrifice good looks and small features for bare basics such as good pickups and good body wood. they are most well known for their mid priced-med high priced models. Appeals more to aspiring artists rather than famous guitar players (although MANY famous people use them) which would explain why many artists have swithced to ESP. well known for that twangy but soulful tone.

Ibanez: does pretty much the exact opposite. offers nice little features such as sparkly finishes or neck through construction but use crappy bodywood** and ibanez stock pickups on even their highest end models. Notorious for having **** tone but good playability. typical ibanez tone is twangy but completley sterie and under heavey distortion, extremley muddy and sometimes unintelligable. sounds something like someone throwing up. Many artists use them because of their smooth quick necks and the fact that through enough good amps and effects, you can hide the ****ty tone to a certain extent

oops i thought this was a VS. thread. anyway i stand by it. fender all the way. IBZ pickups are worse than squier pickups.

here is satch playing blues on an ibanez. Now i dont know about you but i think his tone is **** here. he is one of the best players out there and hes using one of the best amps out there but his tone still sounds muddy. its probably the Ibanez. and this is straight out of guitarworld so i didnt edit it with crappy tone (im not that good anyway)

now here are two completley Random people i found on youtube, not satch, just ordinary folks playing blues on american stratocasters through mid priced amps. Sounds much better doesnt it?

heres my suggestion to you. 1)Get an HSS American Deluxe Strat. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Fender-American-Deluxe-Stratocaster-HSS-Electric-Guitar?sku=511145
it has a humbucker in it which will be better suited for metal

2) change the fender humbucker for a Seymour Duncan JB which has higher output

your all set. It will hande blues PERFECTLY thats basically what strats are made for. and it will be able to play metal as well.

WOW!!Thanks so much guys, all your comments and feedback are all awesome!!Really good stuff. I've heard some people using the S series prestige Ibanez's on youtube as well, from what I can hear, I expected more tone out of a high-end priced ibanez. Ibanez has good necks, but their really thin which makes them very fast, but personally, I like the bigger fretboards as their easier to bend with. My friend said something about the S-1 switching system being very complicated and therefore making it hard to swap out pick ups, which I will definitely consider(something along the lines of an SD JB). Although I doubt I will be putting an FR in it, as I'm not really experienced in FR setups/restringing/etc. I was going for a more smooth overdrive tone with the Fender, do you think it could do that? I use my guitar through a POD X3Live =)

Is it just me, or does it seem rather irreligious to play an Ibanez in a church?

I don't really care for Ibanez's, but i hate Strats. If you get a fender, get a Tele or Mustang. Great blues tone, but they aren't good for heavier stuff. So i say Ibanez.

Hmm...The sad part is that the SV5470 doesn't come out till June =x...I will definatly swap out the pick ups on the Ibanez though, probably with a Dimarzio PAF pro or breeds or just Seymore Duncans. The Ibanez would be a faster guitar for metal, but the Fender will own at blues, from the way I see it...

Cleans
Fender > Ibanez
Dirty
Ibanez > Fender..

Still, anyone think that having 24frets would be better? Also I haven't quite heard the Tru Duo pick ups, but from what I gather, the ZR Trems are good, and since the SyncroniZR is practically a ZR without FR routing or the double locking, they should be very similar, only thing is I heard that the ZR materials are not exactly great, also the Tru Duo pick ups are on the lower end SA series as well...Which is alright, I just expected more for the money =x

I also found this which is flippin awesome http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqfMxybheTg&feature=related
