You're going the stack route? What cab will you be pairing it up with? I'm not a big fan of the VM or the JCM2000 (DSL or TSL).

How 'bout a used JCM 800 or a used JCM 900? The DSL isn't that inspiring to say the least and the Vintage Modern needs a bit of tweaking to get the right tone. The Vintage Modern is also a love/hate amp. Try it out first.

I hate the 2000.

I'd also stay away from the 100 watt stack unless you are playing HUGE venues.

You don't need it.

If he even admits she's hot, we have another problem altogether.

Meh. It's an alright amp. A good first valve amp. But when it comes down to it, it sounds quite bland and doesn't have the presence that the older Super Leads had.

If he's playing a huge venue, he'll be miced through a PA, making a 100watt amp even more useless.

Modern Marshalls are mediocre at best. The JCM-800 and Plexi are good, but only useful within a few genres. There are far better amps in your price range.
Someones knowledge of guitar companies spelling determines what amps you can own. Really smart people can own things like Framus because they sound like they might be spelled with a "y" but they aren't.

Not a great selection there. The vintage/modern is...well, mediocre, and although the JCM2000s are competent gigging amps there are better alternatives. I'd happily buy one used but never ever new.
A 100W half-stack is complete and utter overkill. If you're after high-gain surely you'll want one with a lower-rated power section? There's loads of other lower powered amps out there which would work great, the Mesa F-30 being the first that springs to mind.
