It's weird because sometimes I'm an insomniac, and somwtimes I'll sleep for 18 hours, it sucks, also cause I got to get up in 2 hours. But glad to know I'm not the only insomniac, 318 online last time I checked. It would be cool to have an insomniac thread, like: What do you do when you can't sleep? One that you can only post on between the hours of 12:00-8:00. Me personally, when I can't sleep, I play guitar and watch T.V., or get on the computer. what do you do when you can't sleep?

Edit: 318 viewing the pit, not for the entire website.

Generally, the things you do when you can't sleep are the things that keep you awake. I've been on UG all night, while sort of writing a paper. Brain stimulation, especially the social kind tends to keep me awake more than say lying in bed with my eyes closed. Lately, I've been having a bit of trouble getting to sleep, but that's only because I've distorted my sleeping habits by going to bed late often.
I'm not going to go to bed until like 7 this evening, otherwise I'll just **** myself over more than I already have this past week.

Yes I aware of this but, like myself, there are also people who are STILL awake, that's the people who this is aimed to. Duh!!!

Sometimes I'll sleep for 8 hours, sometimes 3, other times, 18. And my sleep schedule will end up me going to bed at 8, next day, 9, a week later, 4, like that, and it gets all weird.

Should I attempt to go to bed? Like I said I have to wake up in 2 hours. Should I take the 2 hours for all they got, or just stay up?

Well I did that once (I only had one hour) and I kinda felt like sh!t when I woke up. Still though, some of something is better than nothing. I managed to stay awake the rest of the day. (By the way, it's 3:19 am here).

Because I don't usaully sleep at night.

That doesn't mean you're an insomniac.

Definition of insomniac: One who has trouble falling asleep or staying asleep.

If you can sleep for 18 hours, you don't have insomnia. You just sound like any other teenager who likes to stay awake all night and sleep all day.
#36
And you sound like one of those teenagers who likes to spam threads.

The point of this thread was to ask what people do to stay awake, not over-examine posts.

First of all, you're becoming defensive for no reason at all. I was not disrespecting you for staying up late at night (merely notifying you that you're not an insomniac). Like I said, teenagers generally enjoy doing this, some more than others. I'm one who enjoys doing so also, as it is 5:47 AM right now. My

And please tell me how one simple post containing a valid statement is classified as spam. Point stated above.

What I do when I'm awake late at night: Hmmm...I like to go stare at myself naked in the mirror and tell myself I'm a sexy bitch.

lying awake for more than half an hour is considered insomnia. i can lie awake for 5 hours, then fall asleep for 12. its still insomnia, even though i get a full "night's" sleep.

it depends on what the kid has, but insomnia doesnt mean youre operating on no sleep.

Patients with delayed sleep phase syndrome are often mis-diagnosed with insomnia. If the patient has trouble getting to sleep, but has normal sleep architecture once asleep, a circadian rhythm disorder is a more likely cause.

I never said insomniacs don't sleep at all. Perhaps you could try little things to help you fall asleep faster: read, count sheep, stare at a corner in the ceiling, don't drink caffeine, etc. but if you can sleep for 12 full hours that is not insomnia.

count sheep? read?

do you actually have insomnia, or an MD cred?

other things that dont work: exersizing, creating a "sleep regimen", counting, counting backwards, counting by tens, counting by prime numbers, rehersing conversations in my head, going through lines of movies in my head, sleeping pills, song lyrics, thinking about soothing things, just lying there, trying to not think, focusing on breathing, am i forgetting anything?

EDIT: oh, and warm milk
