I was wondering if you could use this to mic up an acoustic guitar aswell?
Has anyone tried this before??
because I had a gig last night and I used a bad vocal microphone for my acoustic, but the audience said they didn't hear me playing.

i think the SM58 is more suited for acoustic instruments and the SM 57 more for micing snares and amps.

I dont think itll fare too badly with the acoustic though, provided that you EQ it some

It can be done for sure, but it won't sound as good compared to a condensor mic. I recorded 'The Red Lady' with it, if you want an idea of how it will sound like. It's on my myspace (link in sig).

I agree

using dynamic mics for a acoustic instruments just shouldn't be done
a condersor will capture sound best, I'd say use a large diagram condesor it will sound infintly better than a 57 or 58 as they are just not designed for it
