to be honest, I prefer them to flat tops, not just because of their tone, but because they look so damn sexy

Really, only vintage ones. I've yet to hear about any other new acoustic archtops (in an affordable range) that offer some degree of quality. I hope someone posts some here.

Browse around on Elderly Instruments and eBay.
Sincerely, Chad.

You think we're holding out on you? Bottom line, there aren't many manufacturers of all-acoustic archtops today. They're just not in fashion. Look around at eBay and look at vintage ones. Do your own homework.
Sincerely, Chad.

The new lower end Gretsch guitars aren't very good. I wouldn't pay 600 bucks for one. Gretsch makes some great guitars, but I'm not at all impressed with the value of their lower end stuff.

I'm in love with old F-hole acoustics though. Vintage archtop's look amazing, and are fun to play. It's already been said, search through Ebay if you're looking for one. Some popular brand names at decent prices would include: Harmony, Silvertone, Kay. More expensive would be the 50's Epiphones and later Gibsons and vintage Gretsch.

Search pawn shops and yard sales and stuff, too.

The Gibson isn't particularly collectible, so that price is fair. The L-30 had a lifespan from 1935 to 1943, so it's older than the Harmony model. I can't speak for the sound of either one, obviously, but I like the looks of the Harmony much more than the dingy black Gibson. Also, the Harmony appears to be in better condition.
Sincerely, Chad.

There is no point getting an acoustic archtop with a laminted body. It's just like getting an acoustic flattop with a laminated body.

If mount a pickup on there and turn up the volume on your amp then the laminated body has the advantage of helping to reduce feedback.

They are not a good guitar as is. Add a pickup to turn them into electric hollowbody guitars and they will be good. They will never be good as acoustic guitars.
Not taking any online orders.

Note that this also accounts for the lack of depth and clarity in the Gretsch. It's a fun guitar to play, just not to hear.
Sincerely, Chad.

Not necessarily. What's wrong with a vintage archtop? Most vintage archtops are made with solid tops. I believe that Gibson is all solid wood (though, probably a low grade).

Most certainly. It's the same comparison between a laminate flat-top and a solid one. Which one is likely to sound better from the beginning and sound better with age?
Sincerely, Chad.

Harmony just released a reissue of their famous Broadway acoustic archtop called the H954 Broadway. It's a phenomenal guitar. Spruce top, maple back, vintage tuners. I'm seriously GASing for one.
