Everyone makes mistakes.

Anyways, i'd say used peavey classic. It has a wonderful blues tone, and can get pretty metal when pushed to do so.
Wait for other replies though before you go off buying anything.

^Peavey classics, when cranked without an OD, can get pretty heavy. Like, modern rock heavy.
I think just a Tubescreamer and some hot pickups (and proper EQing) can get you a reasonably brootal tone.
Not like death metal or anything like that though.

Yuppers, peavey classic are tube amps.
Darn fine ones too.

Thanks for the imput
im leaning to the Peavey classic right now

and is the crate V33212 any good?
#12
^Yeah. Those are cool amps.
But are you playing mostly blues, or mostly metal?
Because, if you're on the metal-ier side of things, you may want to get an amp that's more focused to the metal side of music.
If this is the case, where you need it more for metal, I recommend the Randall RG50TC.

And I stand firm on the Peavey Classic for everything else.

i play more on the blues and classic rock side
I would rather have a really good tone for classic rock than metal
#14
^All right, then I say the classic.
Don't forget to try out other amps too.
Like, there's traynors, crates/palominos, fenders, and oranges out there which deserve a consideration and some playing time.
But, the peavey classic is a great amp for classic rock and blues.

Nahh.... It's basically a higher wattage, less awesome classic.
Stick with the classic.
Anyways, Valvekings are more for metal.

And perkristian876, I know you're trying to help out, but the Classic pwns the Valvetronix any day.

Well to be honest im a complete nub to this stuff.
I just got into guitar and all my buddies were raving about how Marshall was the best :P
So ya im goin to Sam Ash today to try the classic 30 and Valve king.. and mabey sum other tube amps

A Palomino might be able to do metal, but just barely. Mine with an OD is kind of a stretch cause it can only do one or two metal sounds.

Ah, I see. Before you go, check out the gear from your buddies also. And if they know a thing or two about gear, take them along with you so you don't get fooled by a salesman (or go to a shop where you trust the salesmen). And yes, the tube amps from Marshall are quite good (but thats my personal preference). Don't rush into a purchase, take your time to test as much as possible. Good luck on your search!

A B-52 AT112 can do a bluesy tone with some reverb and classic rock really easy. It is mainly a high gain metal amp, but it will also do a blues, clean sound, and classic rock. I think its harder to find a good metal amp than it is to find a good everything else amp.

A B-52 AT will blow all these other amps out of the water as far as high gain goes.
I'd look at a Randall RG50 aswell I havent played one but I've heard good things.
Maybe a Peavey Windsor Studio, or if you don't mind ordering online check out this site.....

I've been looking at the B-52 also.

Mid size, budget amps for classic rock are a dime a dozen (metaphorically speaking) while good, smaller, moderately priced, versatile amps are a little harder to come by.

Well i have a fender 212r $335
Its a great amp for a little more chilled music. Rock/clasic rock/Grunge
But the metal part isn't that great. So if you don't play that much metal i recomend this.
But its more of a gigging amp. It gets really LOUD!!! Thats i'll i really know though lol

Hey I was looking at purchasing a Peavey classic 30 and would like to know if, combined with a boss gt-8 multi-effects pedal, could produce a really good mesa rectifier type heavy metal sound. I'm sure it would because I'd be plugging it in through the effects loop but I just wanted to make sure.

thx
