OK,,.
I am having a hard time getting the Malmsteen tone.
It is maybe because of my guitar or amp -- mostly becuase of my guitar.
I ahve a gibson SG standard which isnt a shred machine..
I am currently working on Far Beyond the Sun and I need a good tone for that
I use the rhythm pickup becuase for some reason that gives more Malmsteen
like tone. If I at least know the EQ setting, I would have a close tone to it.
Anyways, does anyone know Malmsteen's eq setting? Please help me
oh one more thing, I am using thicker string gauges than most shredders -- 11-50
I don't know how much impact string gauge makes but yea..

He uses Strats, for starters, which have a "thinner" sound (however they sound nowhere near thin through his Marshalls :p). You could try cutting a bit of bass and boosting the treble a little.

Have you heard of his signature OD/Boost pedal ? Google DOD YJM808... Could probably help !

Cheers

Malmsteen uses alot of smooth gain, which isnt too easy to get with humbuckers i dont think. I would maybe take down the bass a bit.

first: settings thread
second: he uses strats
third: whats your amp?

my amp is vox ad30vt so i can get various tones from it -- not necessarily good tones.

A DOD 250 OD/Preamp is usually a good idea. I modded my YJM308 to vintage grey specs, but it recently has bitten the dust, but while it worked, it was nice to have for Yngwie.
I think a good marshally tube amp and a clean boost (with proper gain settings and EQ) will get a good yngwie tone.
