Hi first post LOL!

ANyway I'm having a hard time tuning my new guitar up. There are 6 knobs that turn at the end of the neck. There are 3 on the top and there 3 on the bottom. I pretty smart but here is the part that confuses me. When I turn the 3 knobs on the top I am turning them away from me and the music gets higher. No problem. When I turn the bottom knobs away from me the music gets lower. How do I use the bottom knobs to make my music go higher?

Well, if the top ones turn away from you and get higher, that must mean if you turn the bottom ones TOWARDS you, it will make it higher? Idk... im just guessing, thats a really hard question...

lol, don't be mean to the guy

Turn em the other way, coz if you turn the ones on top towards you, they'll detune in pitch...and vice versa, and then its just opposite for the ones on the other side of the headstock (what you called the bottom)

It's electric if that helps. I am not at home now so I can't try the turning suggestions. I ama little afraid to mess with it too much. Don't want to break it, LOL.

You know, its kinda cute in a helpless kitten kinda way.

But to be helpful: I'm just going to guess and say that the neck is set up like a Gibson, three on top and three on bottom of the headstock. Turn them both ways until you get the hang of making it go sharper or flatter. It shouldn't take long. Make sure you have a tuner so that you can find the pitch that you're looking for. From the thicker string to the thinner string it should be tuned E-A-D-G-B-e (often the high E is written lowercase to make the distinction between the two E strings). Once you have it in tune, you're ready to go.

I got my first guitar recently and people are telling me to get pickups. I don't get it. What do they do? Do they help you when you drop your pick?

Ok thanks for all your help. I turned it the other way and the music did in fact go up!

Glad I found this place, I have a lot more questions.

I cannot believe you needed help turning a knob... I cannot fathom all these moronic questions. How do these people function in life?

BTW, i have a question. My door will not open when i turn door knob to the right. Should I try to turn in to the left?
I will wait for an answer.

Last add for Grown - Please do not ask any more questions.

How will pics help?
You turn a knob one way or the other. Do you actually need a picture to help with that concept?

Guys quit being a bunch of dicks.

He wasn't sure, and he wanted to make sure he was doing things right incase he messed up.

No matter how simple the question:
Let the guy learn what he needs to and stop being a load of elitist cocks.

Edit:
Reported both of you.

Hey thanks for the help. sorry If i caused aruckus, lol. Didn't mean to get anyone in trouble. A friend thinks its way out of tune, but they are all nearly the same note so I don't know why he thinks that. Maybe I should buy a tuner just to make sure they are all the same note?

Tuning your guitar up is one of the hardest things for me to do at first, so i know how you feel man. Basically, you really have to train your ear and that will take months before you even get the hang of it. Every time you pick up your guitar try and tune it and eventually you will get used to the process. The way the knobs are turned depends on the way you stringed your guitar. But the general idea (if you stringed the guitar the right way) is foward gets tighter (higher pitch) and backwards release tension (lower pitch). Persevere and don't give up!

My suggestion is to also tune you guitar by listening and tuning the guitar in a fine tuned guitar.

Visit this link:

http://www.tomhess.net/tools.php?ACT=tuner

You will see a guitar sorta looking box and with the six string of the guitar. Try and tune your guitar in the same pitch as tuner does in the link i gave you. This will be hard but never be discouraged! I'm able to do it and i'm telling you can too!! It's also the most accurate way since there is a lot of factors doing it the old fashion way (which i will show a link below). Personally, i use the open string method or i use a guitar tuner.

So here is the manual way to tune a guitar:
