Heya guys.

If I wanted to tune my guitar down to, say, C#, would there be any adverse effects if I keep the same light string set and made no adjustments to the guitar itself? In this case, it's a Gibson SG (you see where I'm going with this...).

Mastering your instrument is being able to play whatever you hear in your head, unhindered by inadequate technique. After that, it's all about what you've got to say, so there would be no "best," just a bunch of people saying exactly what they mean.
You will maybe have to adjust your intonation and truss rod. The truss rod should be set up by a professional though, you might damage your neck if you are not careful. Just tune down and see if the neck is still straight. If it has to be adjusted, it will be a minor adjustment anyway.
What strings are you using? For C# you should have at least .10, though .11 would be better. .09 Are to light for that tuning, they'd be totally sloppy.
