Okay, so I know everyone says Blackouts are better than EMGs, but here's enough proof in either direction.

Me? I love 'em both.

2000 Epiphone '58 Korina Explorer in black
Freshly installed SD Blackouts at 9v, this is recorded solely from the bridge at double-diez.

1994 Epiphone Les Paul Standard in gold
EMG Zakk Wylde set at 18v, recorded from the bridge at 10-10

Both are recorded direct from the preamp line-out of the Vox, (I fried the Blackheart this morning; don't even get me started) and have been amp'd 10dB via Adobe Audition.
Same amp settings. I literally unplugged the Exp and plugged in the LP.

You guys make the call. Blackouts or EMGs.

Neither, they both sound pretty much the same to me: not exactly great.

I like the blackouts better, they sound more full, and a bit less over-bright. actually, they sound more passive than they do active IMO.

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.

To this I agree.
I am not entirely sold on either as the best, but the SDs sound more like passives than they do EMGs.
If I had the opportunity to I would swap the pickups into the same guitar. But alas, the SDs, while supporting quikconnect, do not come with quikconnect cables, and are hardwired into the Explorer.
