This is a horrible idea. I don't quite know the key differences between a 6 string guitar and a bass, but all that seems apparent is the strings difference. So I was wondering if I replace the strings of my spare Ibanez GAX 70 with bass string would that make it sound that same as any other bass? There is probably some difference in part design/ wiring but it seems like it's worth a shot instead of having it collect dust in a corner.

Here's a list of a few new things you'll need:

tuners
nut
bridge
pickups

and afterwards it'll be really crappy.

the tuners will be too small to take the strings

basses have long necks for a reason: it wont be properly intonated otherwise

the strings will be too big for the nut

and the bridge

and they wont be evenly spaced

and itll sound like ass due to lots of things, mainly pups tho

sowwy, it wont rly work
Get off this damn forum and play your damn guitar.

i second that it is not a good idea. the guitar's scale length is just too short to tune to bass; the tension would be way too high with strings heavy enough. additionally, no aspect of the guitar-pickups, bridge, etc-are designed to work with bass strings and tuning.

don't do it.
