This is a thread about cover songs vs. original songs. Whether you like the cover or the original more lemme know. But also tell why you like/hate said song becasue I am very interested in hearing everyone's opinions on cover songs you like, hate; covers you like better, etc. So by all means debate, but keep it nice Or if there are good ones i forgot about or should be made aware of.

My Favorites are:
Nonpoint's cover of In the Air Tonight by Phil Collins
Killswitch Engage's cover of Holy Diver by Dio
Guns N'Roses version of Knocking On Heaven's Door
Pantera's cover of Planet Caravan by Black Sabbath

*with the exception of Planet Caravan by Black Sabbath I have heard both cover and original versions of above mentioned songs many times.

i actually LOVE KSE's version of holy diver. not to diss dio (because that would be blatant blasphemy), but there version sounds like dio's on steroids. f*ckin' heavy and RAD.

also, Johhny Cash does a good version of hurt, by NIN...you can really feel the emotion in his voice. but i still like NINs better, but then again im a huge huge NIN fan anyways.

i think covers should bring something else to the song, change it a bit or something...otherwise your just doing karaoke, and theres no point of recording it

Definitely. Hendrix made that song a beast.

I agree about KSE's version of "Holy Diver," as well. They definitely did justice to the original.

EDIT: I must also say, I quite enjoy Me First and the Gimme Gimme's versions of Over the Rainbow and Blowin' In The Wind.

I like Nightwish's Phantom of the Opera better (if that counts)
I also think Ensiferum did a better cover of Lady in Black than the original band, Uriah Heep

I personally prefer Dope's cover of "Rebel Yell" and "You Spin Me Right 'Round" to the originals by Billy Idol.
Dope's versions of those songs sounds grittier, dirtier and heavier which I like very much.
Although, I love Billy Idol of course.

No one likes Hole but me it seems, so don't be a douche I already know this. They did do two covers that beat the originals, "The Void" by the Raincoats, and "Hot Chocolate Boy" by Beat happening.

Avenged Sevenfold did an awesome job with Walk
Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean ? It's a mystery, and that's why mankind is.

I LOVE Paramore's cover of Sunday, Bloody Sunday. U2's original is great, but Paramore's version had something really special about it.

Aside from that, I'm not really a fan of covers.

I find pretty much any of Dropkick Murphy's covers to be amazing. I perfect example of this I think would be either 'The Green Fields of France" or "The Auld Triangle".

Also, Izzy's (Full name I can never remember, but its the big Hawaiian guy who died in 97) cover of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" is truly amazing.
