basically im after an epiphone 335
i have been offered one in good condition for £230
but it is 4 years old.
i have also seen 1 for £300 brand new...
is it worth the extra for it to be new?
are guitars effected alot by age like a computer is for example in terms of hardware life.

Yeah, that word VINTAGE in the names is just for kicks! :P

The most important question is: "How does it sound?"
If it sounds just like what you want, then it's all good!

cool so i shouldnt be worryed about it being 4 years old in terms of reliability

Yes and no. For a Korean or Chinese guitar, I would be. You really don't see a lot of them live past 10 years or so. Likewise, there is general stuff too; fret wear, hardware condition, and the electronics. That is no great bargin on fleabay. You should just spend a little more for a newer one that is probably built a bit better

oh would love to have a 60's era tele, but i would also love to be the first to own a brand new one too, it really comes down to if you want vintage or not

I got my first guitar in 1979 a Granada Les Paul copy and then got a Lado flying V in 83, both are great guitars and to be honest find them better than the Fender MIM strat I bought last year

BTW I bought all 3 new

4 years is hardly an issue, provided the guitar was stored some what properly. 30-40 years is a bit different...
Schecter C-1 Classic (Antique Amber)
Ibanez JEM 7VWH
Crate Palamino Class A tube combo
Digitech RP80 Multieffects pedal
Ibanez TS9 DX Tube Screamer
