so basically my brother has a drumkit (that i play) and he bought at sears about a year ago. he just bought new skins for it so im wondering how drastically that will alter the sound.

I suggest remo pinstripes, but a lot of people like evans heads. You can't go wrong with either brand, though.

the majority of the skins are remo powerstrokes. he also has a evans genera(for snare) and an aqurious(for bass)

Yep, Remo Weatherking pinstripe are best for toms, and just the pinstripe for the snare.
