Thought I'd start a general discussion thread about Jimmy Eat World. Think they're a brilliant modern rock band and their new album Chase This Light shows how strong they've become. Just wondering what everyone else thinks of them?

I love them, honest

Yeah, I love their albums like Futures, Chase This Light and Bleed American. None of those albums has one single bad song on it.

I've never been a big fan but I've only really heard Bleed American. Only liked a couple of songs on that album butit wasn't bad I guess. I wouldn't say they were amazing though.

The singer has a really smooth voice, and I fall easy for those things.

I absolutely love Jimmy Eat World. I was completely obsessed with Bleed American over the summer and it was pretty much the only album I listened to, and now I'm really getting into Chase This Light.

For me it would have to go:
Bleed American > Chase This Light > Futures > Clarity

But Futures and Clarity are still damn good albums

I'd check out the new album, some really good tracks on it. Electable (Give It Up) is a really good song, Here It Goes, Dizzy and Big Casino are all wicked too. They're all really good to be honest

I'm going to see them in April, and I'm totally psyched. I bought Chase This Light on vinyl, and whenever people come into my dorm room and hear it playing, then see it on the turntable instead of coming out of my laptop or something, they freak out. It's way cooler on vinyl.

Also, you guys keep forgetting Static Prevails when you rank their albums. For me, it's:
Chase This Light>Bleed American>Futures>Clarity>Static Prevails
but if you want to get technical:
Second half of Futures>Chase This Light>Bleed American>First half of Futures>Clarity>Static Prevails
Telecaster - SG - Jaguar
Princeton Reverb, Extra Reverb
P-Bass - Mustang Bass
Apogee Duet 2 - Ableton Suite

Yea, the reason I left it out is because I'm really not a fan of it. It's just nowhere near the same league as any of their other albums and I just don't listen to it any more, whereas I still listen to all of their others.

I really enjoy the song Sweetness.

It is, in fact, sweetness.

Yeah the beginning of that song makes blood rush to my head or something

1) Futures
2) Bleed American
3) Clarity
4) Chase This Light
5) Static Prevails

That's my order. Chase This Light is too poppy for me. I prefer their depressing "emo" side...

Woah, where's the love for Clarity? That album is so mood-defining its untrue. It reads my mind. I actually like the new single, it has that same dreamy, relaxed vibe that Clarity captures. But I have Futures and s/t (Bl. Am.) and enjoy them immensely too.
#21
^ Tbh, i didn't think much of Clarity until i listened to it over the past couple of days. And now i love it. I've always loved 'Believe In What You Want' and 'Your New Aesthetic', but now i love all the songs. Just wish 'Goodbye Sky Harbor' was 10 minutes instead of 16.

I love Clarity, I just think Futures is the best, and BA is what got me into them, so I gotta give that one some props... Static Prevails is bad...

Jimmy Eat World was the first band I ever saw live. They were simply awesome. I was planning on going to the Washington DC show on April 26th with Paramore but apparently its sold out? It doesn't say anything on Jimmy or Paramore's official site...but it won't let me get tix on ticketmaster. Paramore's myspace says "sold out" too. Booo! Teen girls flocking to hear crushcrushcrush/misery business bother me. Keeps us fans from actually going to our shows. meh.

The more I listen to Chase The Light the more I love it, it's right up there with Bleed American for me at the moment.

I think 'Here It Goes' is probably one of the best songs they've ever written, I'm obsessed with it at the moment!

I like Ten, and you should check out this live version of Goodbye Sky Harbor, a somewhat different and shorter take. I think it's great, one of my favorite live performances by Jimmy eat World http://youtube.com/watch?v=vafBW2Lrwe8

Yeah it was one of the songs with 'Let it happen' and 'Big Casino' that I immediately took to. I don't know why but it makes me think of square dancing

To anyone who hasn't properly heard Chase This Light yet, I'd advise you to straight away.
It took me a few listens but it's now my favourite JEW album, even over my long-loved Bleed American.
Some stunning tracks on it, Here It Goes is by far my favourite, with Electable, Big Casino, Dizzy and Always Be coming up behind. To me there isn't a weak point on the album, from the somber 'Gotta Be Somebody's Blues' to the pacey 'Feeling Lucky' - all rounded off with possibly one of the best album-enders I've heard in years.

Give it a chance, it's a brilliant album

listened to 'bleed american' for the first time yesterday. i've listened to it 8 times already now lol.

only songs from them i had heard before were 'the middle' and 'just tonight'.
