I am in the market for a new guitar, and my dad, (a musician) says that the epiphone les pauls are ****, and cheap knockoffs. I haven't played either companies guitars, so I can't make a discision yet. what do you pitters think?

Well, Everyone with a little more the begginer experience will know that epiphone is a lower quality version of gibsons. your lucky to have a dad that is willing to buy his n00b son a nice Gibson Because thy're are expensive.

The difference between a Gibson and an Epiphone is around $1000. Epiphone is like a sub-branch of Gibson.

EDIT: Why would you put multiple options on a poll where there can only be one logical answer?

And they quite often have better quality too.
Try going second hand from <-1999 for Gibson & <-2001 for Epiphone.

he isn't wrong
but he isn't right either
epiphones are NOT ****ty
they have some really nice guitars in the 400-500$ range
sometimes they are a better bang for your buck at that price range

but if he is willing to go all out in buying the gibson
then take advantage of that.

I have a signature modeling Epiphone that is just a s expensive a a cheap Gibson, I have the Ace Frehley Epiphone, Its got three humbuckers ($1500)
So I cant say I hate eiphone. but Im a fender guy now. top of the line fenders for the price of an epiphone.(and an extra $400) for some nice pickups)

Gibsons are higher quality but not worth paying the extra 1000 dollars. If he is footing the bill get a Gibson but if youre paying just get a 500-700 epiphone.

If you think you are in the level for a Gibson then buy the Gibson if not then the Epiphone but if your dad is willing to buy the Gibson the buy it!
#13
get the gibson, i have a gibson les paul and an epiphone ace frehley les paul
gibson has better necks and sound, epiphones are great but performance wise cant compare to gibsons. My Epiphone Ace compares but it was also way more expensive than most Epiphone Les Paul's. My Gibson is incredible, if he'll buy you one definitely get the gibson

get an epi. you dont know what your gonna be looking to play in a year or two and a gibson might not give you what you want.
i think a epi will give you a solid guitar that you can learn with, and if you love the style, get a gibson later

Gibson's are incredible and you'll never need to buy another guitar if you get one

Gibson all the way. epiphones are pretty much Gibson knock-offs.

they are not knock-offs as gibson owns epiphone....

epiphone are mostly economic versions of the gibsons, some are really bad but some models come pretty close to the gibsons.

as for gibson you pay much for the brand but you also get a guitar which is of superior quality and has gone through a hard quality check

if you got the money and you´re a pretty serious player get a gibson!

I prefer Epiphones to Gibsons, i have 3 Epiphones, an SG, a Dot and a Les Paul.
I was offered a Gibson les Paul on top of that so i tried it out and hated it, it wasnt right for me

Much Love

first of all i own an epi les paul 100
and it's a brilliant guitar to play
there is a huge variety of sounds you can get out of it
so i say get the epi first and buy a gib later
the only difference is the price tag and the gib version is slightley better looking
also consider an epi SG should be around the same price as the les paul

actually i think theres a review of a epi les paul 100 on this site
and it was very highley rated
