Just out of interest, i have this old P.O.S sg and after watching thousands of tutorials do you think i could make a red white and black EVH sg. I know that everyone does the same evh design but i've never seen one on an sg. what do you guys think.

that wont be hard. does anyone know how to disassemble an sg. I dont really wanna take everything apart because that means soldering. Im 13 so soldering is no good.

its not that hard to solder. i just turned 15 and am almost done building a whole guitar

could i possibly just mask the entire pickup so no paint can get to it and leave it in?

Soldering is E-Z. I'd make it look really vintage, not new like all of these crappy EVH strats that come around.

thats why i wanted to do it. I mean everyone who has a sh!t old squire goes for the EVH look, but no-one does it to an sg, an now i think of it, it would look pretty sweet once its done. but alas its just sat there in pieces waiting to be sanded down on Monday. I'll post as many pics as possible during the whole project from sanding to lacquer so it doesn't turn into another thread like ' oh it looks super sweet but theres no pics'. Any who it will be done in the space of about a week or so. And finally i promise there wont be any more of these long ass posts.

well after a few hours of sanding and mummifying my pickups in masking tape ( which worked perfectly) i finally got the first coat down. Waiting for it to dry at the moment then goes the masking and white coat, which I'll post.

Well hours later i decided to mask the thing after it dried. Then sprayed it with white car paint. I've yet to put lacquer on it but I'll do that tomorrow. So far i think i got the fooked, ugly battered look i aimed for so....yey.

Looks a little shabby right now, but it'l probably look better when you put lacquer on it.

Red finish is on and just need to paint the back and put lacquer on and we're done.

What the hell?

You could've at least removed the pickup frames and the pots/switch. You wouldn't have had to (un)solder anything.

Sheesh.

i finished it. the masking worked great and, yeah. I'm happy with it

what does everyone think?

I think you should've done your homework and learned how to remove the pots, pickups, and switches.

Also, I think the EVH color scheme is terribly, terribly overdone. You could do much better than this.
Sincerely, Chad.

Is there any black people on UG?
I don't think a lot of black people play guitar anymore.

i can agree with chad48309, to be honest i think it was a waste of time because i barely ever play it. My Epi lp surpasses this in a thousand fields so yeah.......it was a learning experience.

Personally, I think even just having a natural, blonde finish on this SG would be more creative than the EVH scheme. Just remember to unscrew the pots, switches, and pickups next time. You really didn't learn much from leaving them in.
Sincerely, Chad.

i think it looks feckin' epic! love it. i've got a cheap liberty sg, can't be bothered to do something like that though.
also, it's really cool that you've done it yourself. i love the whole DIY thing when it comes to guitars, amps and hi-fi in general.
nice one

i think it looks like something you'd find in a public toilet...

first i sanded it till' it was kind of like matt. so not shiny really. then the first coat was car paint, the second was heavy machinery paint and then some halfords own nissan red paint. then i just put one coat of lacquer on. its still fine.
