You better have a budget.

If you really like Metallica's tone, get a Mark IIC +, a Diezel and a VHT.
Gear:
Dean MS STD V w/ Dimebucker
Dean ML '79
Jackson DKMGT
Randall RG75
Peavey Bandit 112
Boss NS-2

Lol please step away from the MG. Go with mesa or marshall jcm (NOT THE BLOODY MG) and remember tube amps are loud as hell. Look at the gear sticky thread to answer some of your other questions

Assuming your in America, $1500 should get you a VERY decent amp
For your styles, i'd suggest a JCM 800 perhaps, with a boost...
OR look into Marshall clones - I'm not sure on the pricing of Splawns, but they'd probably cover you very nicely

I would probably say you're best bet would be to look around for a Dumble Overdrive Special 100.

Marshall JCM is f*cking brilliant. I stupidly bought an MG as my first amp 2 years ago and I was glad to be rid of it.

get the Marshall JCM800, with an Ibanez Tubescreamer TS808, and any guitar with humbuckers in it, like a Les Paul. Perfect metal 80s rock tone.

Mesa MKIV.

You can find them used for $1100 if you look properly and then you can get a nice 2x12 can to go with it.

You need to look used for a JCM 800
The Mesa Mark IV is another good suggestion (used again)

i bought a fender 212R after having a old 15R and the 212 HAMMERS . The drive (gain) is great and the 100 watts is loud! it comes with a foot switch to select the channel
Clean \ Drive=some gain and\ more drive= earth shattering tone at 5 volume

all for $330 at local music store buy it best solid state amp
I love this amp

Well yeah, a full stack is just completley unnecessary IMO. Still, I have every confidence you'll be happy with a JCM800 and a 1960 cab.

if your not looking for techno noise and overkill gain then don't get the MG if your trying to duplicate static X then hell go for it but outside of tech rock its a ****e amp
