I listen to music like the white stripes, metallica, manowar, guns n roses, aerosmith, alice cooper, that kind of stuff. what do you think is the best guitar for about 400? or even less.... i dont care if its used or not. ebay is fine.

Used MIM HSS Fender Strat. Versatile as hell, well built, about $200-$350 on Craigslist.

Edit: in before the "Epi LP can do anything" posts.

Epiphone G-400
I have it.
It's a really good all around guitar
Looks really nice in the cherry red.

I was going to buy an Ibanez RG2ex1 before the G-400
The Ibanez had good metal tone but crappy clean
But the G-400 plays it all
That's why I recommend it

Check it out.

An Ibanez SA, I reckon. Low-end Epiphones come with crap stock pickups, I'd avoid. A MIM Tele will get you a nice grungy sound, but perhaps not ideal for the heavier stuff.Strats are great too, but most of the bands you listed lean more towards the humbucker sound.

I'd definitely go for the Ibanez in this case.

+1 on the HSS Strat suggestion. Definitely the most versatile beginner guitar.

Edit: I didn't see that some were blems...

you could ignore them, but some of the scratches are barely noticable...

go with a MIM strat or a epi les paul standard...not great but good for the money
