Hey dudes,

So I've been considering starting to play drums (i won't quit guitar but i think there's nothing wrong with playing more then one instrument) and since i don't have a lot of room in my... well room i think synth drums are the way to go since they don't take up as much space as usual drums and they fold up (how rad is that ). So I'd like to hear your thoughts on that.

Take care.

P.S. how does the price of Synth Vs. Acoustic drums compare ?

You mean an electric drumkit?
They're generally a fair bit more expensive, I think the cheapest I've seen was about $999 australian, as opposed to decent beginners acoustic kits being between 400 and 500 AU.

Weird, i thought they'd be cheaper. Ok then I'll have to do more thinking. Please keep the comments going though.

learning more than one instrument is a good idea, i play guitar, bass, drums, keyboard/piano
also, acoustic drums are easier to play, so stick with them

Have you played an electronic kit???

I've seen electric kits for £400-500, you can get Acoustic Kits cheaper than that, but they're normally pieces of **** with horrible cymbals, drum skins etc.

Try the Yamaha DTXplorer, I've got one and it's pretty awesome

i think if your just starting drums, you'll want to be able to play loud and what not...

part of the "drums" is banging on them lol...

i'd say get a cheaper acoustic set over electric...

also if you played electric drums at a show you'd never hear the end of it...

You know i have been on these forums for nearly 2 years and what cracks me up is when guitarists rip the piss out of drums and then threads appear about learning drums or how they can't play them.

It gives me a hardy chuckle.

Yeah it's pretty ironic isn't it. I have a respect for drummers because I can't do it.

Electric drums are better than Acoustic drums for PRACTISING, and I assume that this guy only wants to practise because he is a guitarist. Therefore, go for electric since they won't be as loud as the acoustic, which would be rather annoying for the enviorment if you would be practising that a whole day. And yes, they also take up alot less space.

I got accoustic drums at Christmas. We had to move my drawers into my parents room to fit the dums in mine lol. And it only came with the crash so i need to buy a ride cymbol. I can only play them for an hour when I come home from school and even then I have to have the pads on. We didn't think it would be this much hassle. So really think about it when/if you buy them.

Excellent! We made the mistake in our family to buy my little brother a beginner acoustic set, which is loud as hell so yeah, he's in the situation where he can only play for like an hour after school then the family comes home and he can't play. I so regret that we didn't buy him a digital set. Oh well, me and my mom are thinking of buying him a digital set soon, and DTexplorer is probably the set we're gonna buy because they're rumored to be awesome.

Get an electronic drum pad. I saw a decent Yamaha one for $250 USD. Very space-saving.
