I'm starting to save up money and I'm planning to have 1,000 USD at most by summer.

So since I'm keeping my rocker30, I'll have that low gained to mid-crunchy sound down. Well, for the new amp, I really want the best of both worlds.

Requirements:
-FX loop
-High Gained; Racer X, Lamb of God, Megadeth, etc
-Decent Cleans

Used is completely fine. I was thinking about a Laney, Carvin, or a Mesa?

Cheers.

Laney VH100R might do it. I'm not too well up on Mesas or Carvins so I can't offer much help there. The Laney will do Megadeth fine and has really nice cleans, but it can get a bit messy with higher gain levels, and might be a bit bright for that modern metal sound. Your OCD might help that, though. I think the Laney TT's are better for higher gain stuff, but I haven't tried one.

Meh, like I said my Vc50 gets a little messy with the higher gain levels. Might have to try going br00talz on it tomorrow, maybe it's the open back of the combo thats the problem.

Really?

So what's the difference between the VH and the GH?

The GH is single channel and I think has a tiny bit more gain on top.

VH has a clean channel, and separate EQs, reverb controls for each channel. and more FX loop options. The drive channels are almost the same.

Yeah but who talks about Laneys in the Laney Thread?

If you're interested on how it sounds, here's a little clippy.

Sounds sweeet. What were the gain/drive knobs set at for that?

Sorry to burst everybody's bubble...

But the Laney VH100R is $1600. The GH isn't even sold there. I say scratch Laney.

I hear good things about Carvin, haven't tried one though.

I'd wait until Blackheart releases their new line this year. They have a 100 watt head called the hot head which sounds like it will be real nice. I'm gonna get one when it comes out. It will probably be just under 1000.

Some where around the $400's to $500's just for the head actually.

Boost it I guess.

Check out the Carvin V3 or the Randall RG50TC if you don't want to go over budget.

You could check out the Triple XXX and the JSX too.

^Agreed. I heard someone talk about buying a Mark IV for $900; it's rather rare, but it happens. I've also seen Mark III combos go for around $1000.
You might try looking in to an F series combo as well; they're pretty versitile.

i hear the carvin v3 is really good and can do anything but i havn't played it so make sure you play it before you buy it

I'm going to seccond the JSX and XXX ideas, with the concern that the high gain won't be tight enough.

Am I crazy to think 5150 II or 6505+?
