Quit your job, kill your family, sell your house and busk for a living.

But seriously, do any of your local pubs or bars host jam nights? A lad I know from work goes to jam nights in different pubs for 5 nights of the week, because he's so frustrated not to have a band. Now that's immersing (not emerging) yourself in the rock scene. Even if you don't get up and play, jam nights are an excellent way to meet like-minded musicians.

okay, but I'll warn you that it is one sleazy, dangerous, tiring, drugged out, alcoholic, sleazy, dirty, grown men crying with each other at 5am in the morning, sleazy world.

So maybe just put out an add saying "Guitarist(this and that style) looking for a working band" somewhere. It's all about Networking so get out there and meet people at bars shows, drug dens, whatever.

...I would NOT immerse yourself into that world. Just play music in that world. But hopefully that is what you meant
