Ok, so a friend of mine is offering to sell me his Fender Blues DeVille (made in 1993) for $500. The amp is in pretty good shape and he'll give me the footswitch and amp cover as well. There is nothing really wrong with it, but I'm not sure if I should get it or not! I haven't heard him play it much so I don't know much about the sound, but in general how is the overdrive on DeVille's (4x10 if you wanted to know) and would it handle a good classic rock tone?

That's a decent price. The Fender DeVille takes really kind to pedals since its cleans are so nice. I think for classic rock you could do fine, but if you really want to play classic rock you might look into a marshall jcm 800 or something.

Depends on what your definition of classic rock is. If it's the Rolling Stones, you'll be all set. If it's Van Halen, you might want to look in another direction.
