gonna get a new guitar, for alternative rock /hard rock, qotsa and nirvana style, with ocasional need for good cleans, so i'd need a balanced guitar. budget is kinda low so..

epiphone lp-100 or ibanez GRG170DX?

or do you recommend a different one in the same price range?

^I'd let a pro look at it. Once you get into the technicalities of screws...well, it's just a place you don't want to be, friend.

why that one? it's actually not too expensive, probably wouldn't need to save up more.

Because its Mahogany, It has a great neck, all around its a great guitar, pretty versatile, and you cant go wrong with it.

Gio series Ibanez's are lame. Normal and Prestige RG's are good.

Another vote for RG. If with a trem, you can always switch it for a OFR which is awesome.

What kind of tone you get out of it will depend on what amp you have.

Who cares about the knobs. Its in a fine location. Cleans should be possible.
