So, I have a quick question for you guys.

How do you get that really punchy, grainy, gritty, and sharp rhythm sound? Kind of like Mike Einziger's on "Rouges" from Light Grenades, or like from "Walk This Way" (the main riff, where Perry's tone is really punchy and bluesy).

Does it just come from cranking the hell out of the amp? Or is there a certain way I can EQ or a certain pedal (OD maybe) that will help get this sound?

This is probably really confusing. But thanks for any help that comes along.

a low gain, high output setting on an OD pedal should do it, with a wee mid & mid-high boost on your EQ
