I was looking to buy some effects pedals now that I've been playing for about a year and a half. I recently bought a Boss DS-1 but I was wondering what some other good pedals to invest in are. I was thinking about a chorus, reverb/delay or maybe a flanger.

Can anyone give me some ideas about some pedals of good quality which you'd get a lot of use out of?

I'm mainly into classic rock (Hendrix, Cream, AC/DC etc.), Punk(Green Day, Blink 182), Metal (Metallica) and Modern Rock (Foo Fighters, Wolfmother).

Any ideas?

Reverb and delay are always really nice to have. A touch of chorus can also make some amps really sing. I'd just test some pedals through your amp and see what you thing improves your tone the most.

I second the delay... They are a ton of fun to use.. You can just get lost and riff away for hours on end with a decent delay pedal..

Also,

Phasers are really cool pedals to use. Something like a Small Stone or a Phase 90.

Flangers are cool too, but phasers, in my opinion, can be used in a tasteful and subtle way more often than many other modulation effects...
