I'm Planning to mod this with a evh paint job and new pickups.

Firstly i have a few questions

1) Does the body need to be sanded if so how long will this take by hand ?

2) Is Primer needed ? As i have saw youtube videos where people paint over the wood / layer of paint without primer.

3) What pickups should i install ? I was thinking a emg 81 as this body is universally routed.

4) What do you think of black with green stripes?

Thanks for your help

Yes. You can scuff sand with 220 grit (remove all the glossy parts) then sand with 400 grit. It should take about 15 minutes. Use a block sander so you don't gouge the wood.

You can shoot straight colorcoat since the old paint will act as your base coat.

That's up to you ... what music you play, the tone you're going for, the amp you have, etc.
4) What do you think of black with green stripes?
Colors/appearances are highly personal; so, it's whatever brings you joy!
Thanks for your help
Good Luck!

BUT, add to the cost of the actual floyd and you might be paying over £200...

Hardware removed and "shiny" layer sanded off.

I would go for some kind of Gibson Humbucker, I'll be doing a similar mod soon, and thats what I plan on using.

Just remember if you install an active EMG you need a place for the battery.
None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free.

^ I have a place for the battery as it was routed to have a computer component i now have a hole in the bottom.

Also i have the primer , green and black and plan on spraying tommorow.

You could always do what eddie did originally and flush mount a floyd, check out the forum pages on http://www.eddievanhalen.com/evh/ I'm sure there are loads of threads on there for mounting a floyd with no routing.

Green Added

The green is a glossy finish, should i apply the stripes and then spray primer on or spray the black on straight away ?

i would say just spray the colors without the primer
Ibanez RGT42DXFX with emg 81/85
Schecter C1-Classic

What I meant was that you should do wetsanding and buffing to give it that shiney shine.

OH.

I wanna let it dry a little first.

Let it dry at least 3 weeks if using laquer based sprays.

EDIT: After you've finished ALL the spraying.
