thats a bass...
I like analogue Solid State amps that make no effort to be "tube-like", and I'm proud of it...

...A little too proud, to be honest.

If you won't consider a gibson, why not try and epiphone? Epiphones aren't as good quality as gibsons, but they are alot cheaper. Other than that, the best advice I can give you is to go out and try as many guitars as you can. If they are too expensive in the shops, they'll probably be cheaper on the internet

EDIT:

I think he was trying to be funny or something when he suggested an epi thunderbird

oh your looking not expensive? I was about to suggest this http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Gibson-Dave-Grohl-Signature-SemiHollowbody-Electric-Guitar?sku=515608

but an epiphone explorer might work. anything with humbuckers should do the trick. They've been using hollow bodies more often these days. Dave use to use an explorer a lot. and in the early days I saw a lot of LP's being used by them.

He probably meant the firebird.

I know. I didn't feel like making myself useful... <logs out as a result of major strop caused by something completely irrelevant to this thread>

Dave has used various Gibbys along with a transparent Ampeg throughout his career. Pat has used Hagstrom Super Swedes, a Gibson V, and various Strats and Teles. What that means; anything will work

Pat has used a few different Hagstroms, including the Swede, and from what I could tell from a video, a Viking... He's apparently a big collector of vintage Hagstroms. I don't know how he feels about the new reissues...

I saw Dave using a White Falcon in one of their videos, but seeing as Gibsons are out of your price range, I won't recommend it. In fact, I don't even know why I bought it up.

stop talking now

Do epiphone do a firebird?

but that might be a little out of your price range...(you can pick up a beat up one for about 1500)

ummmm, the lead guitarist uses a firebird and a semi-acoustic gretch i think?
