I've heard that people need to start early with some instruments in order to have the possibility of domintating them. Does this apply to guitar?.

I started being 18 (well, late 17), does that imply that I have limitations that I could never be able to defeat?

Undefeatable? No. You'll have to practice like mad to catch up with other people your age, though.
#3
Define 'dominating' it? And you've got less time to practice, but I assume that if you gave a good effort it wouldn't make much of a difference.

Glenn Tipton did not pick up the guitar until he was 21.

If you think that playing the guitar is fun, then play the guitar.

In the process of growing, it is much easier to learn different things (languages, guitar)... This doesn't mean that you will not achieve your goal, but you will need to practice like mad... And because you are 18, you have probably develloped an amount of pacience that can allow you to succeed through the tougher parts (lack of callousces, etc...)

Good luck!

It's mostly the dogma of the classical realm.

It is however true that your brain is more set. Like a baby learns things much faster then you(cause obviously, he needs to understand his entire new world) But determination and perseverance I say can make you "dominate" any goal.

Glenn Tipton started when he was 21 years old.
Today he's the guitarist of probably the most successful metal band after Iron Maiden.

who cares if you 'dominate' and instrument, no-one can ever 'dominate' or completly master the guitar anyway. even steve vai and buckethead have their limitations. just so long as you enjoy playing and have a passion for it, it doesnt matter. becoming a great player is just to pick up chicks.
