well, i've played guitar for aboot 4 months, and i'm hoping to switch to bass in another two.

problem is, i have no idea whitch bass guitar to get, though i have spent a lot of time examining Epiphone Thunderbirds and les pauls, and Dean Metalman Z's,

as for am amp, no idea other than a peavey MAX 115 combo

Of course it matters.
Different basses give different tones.
I suggest you read the FAQ as that has a whole section on beginner bass' and amps.

I wouldn't go for the Thunderbird my bassest has one and it literally fell apart! get a MIM Fender man there durable and the tones right for your genre.

try the VM squier and the MIM fender
they are both great basses
for classic rock if you want that punchy fulling sound try the p bass
or i you want a bit mor growly and versatile sound go with j bass
anyways try some basses at the store
