I thought 'Daron' the second I saw the name of the thread.
We've drained full confession booths, polluted drinking wells with our repentances, and then stood grinning with our arms around the shoulder of a rotting child.

If you resist change, you will be here forever.

The guy from Fall Out boy! haha... oh wait.
In seriousness soad are cool in that respect and i suppose the foo fighters are minimal soloers, granted live Grohl kicks out the shrednow and then. Also Punk guitarists lay off that stuff and those fancy chordy guitarists like Johnny Marr.

But solos are awesome.

EDIT: I FORGOT HETFIELD riff genius! he could probably do more tasteful solos than Kirk anyway, some metallica solos are mindless fret wank.

Hetfield is a kickass rhythm player. He's kicked out a few nice solos in his time but not many.

Keith Richards is a good shout, that has to be said.

Joe Strummer too, seeing as anything that could be vaguely construed as "soloish" would've been Mick Jones' area.

Steve Jones.

he has written a ton of riffs and catchy melodies between those 3 chords and gained millions of fans doing so.

if you're gonna bag on someone for being a way overrated guitarist focus on billy joe from greenday. he literally writes almost no melody and when his songs have them they're not written by him. he needs a "touring guitarist" to makke up for the fact that he sucks.

he solos fairly often (about 50% of the solos in megadeth), but he's not considered a lead guitarist i don't think. although i quite like his soloing too.

but i'm going to say dave mustaine.

Richard Z from Rammstein dosent solo very much, i can only think of 2 or 3 songs where he does. his riffs kick ass though.
#27
Emppu of Nightwish. He does solo sometimes, yes, but it's never for wankage - it actually adds to the song every single time.

Why not just call this "The Rhythm Guitarist of your favorite band!" thread?

Because it's not just that, think of people like Keith Richards, who seldom solo but he is the lead guitarist.

--Greg Tribbett (mudvayne),

--I think Mike Einziger from Incubus should get mentioned here, at least for their earlier material.

EDIT!

Wayne Static and the guys from 10 Years.

Man, this turned into a long list...

Mårten Hagström, Fredrik Thorendhal are basically the best in this category...

Dan Weller and Pin don't solo all that much either, but are AMAZING.

I'm surprised that Daron Malakian gets so much respect... he's really... lol.

Alright, your all gonna be like, erg thats your opinion, thats just your opinion!!! but no, its not really, his music and guitar playing is terribly predictable.

Uhm, I'll just correct you while I'm here. Assuming you're the average person (which I'm positive you are, since you spelled his name incorrectly), you obviously haven't heard any of Green Day's stuff from their first two albums. Billie Joe can bust out a solo every now and again, and they sound pretty cool. Aside, their touring guitarist is there to assist in the guitar required for the songs, not because Billie Joe sucks. Just throwing that out there. Besides, if I had to choose between level of skill, I would say Green Day has slightly more complex work than Blink.
#36
East Bay Ray, the few solos he does do are usually minimal, but at the same time, I feel they put the song together or are just plain catchy.
#37
nick valensi / albert hammond jr ... the strokes guitarists... every chord they play is catchy in some way or another.

billy corgan... while he can whip out some kickass solos on some songs, he is great even when its a simple song like 1979 or tonight tonight.
