Bit of an odd problem this one. The box to choose between stereo mixer, line in, mic, etc is greyed out so I can't change my input.

Anyone know what to do?

You can multitrack in soundforge now?

And gallager2006- that's a tape recorder.

a DAW is only the machine...the sequencing software is Audacity.

he should move to Reaper which is free and soooo much better IMO...

not if you take some time to go though the manual or search some things.

When I started learning Sonar 6 I was lost for a few weeks until going though the book and searching google...now I prefer it over any program out there.

Same with Reaper, I started, felt lost, learned it over a week or two.
once you learn a program you can really do a lot with it.

Anyway, you could still use it to record if you sang down the handset.

[quote="'Tommy[fin"]']TS, it's because you've Vista. I had the same problem, but you just have to do a few things differently.

From Audacity wiki. http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Mixer_Toolbar_Issues

Ah, he's on vista?

The laptop I use for recording is vista- I've had so many problems with sound.

The only thing that could sort it for me was this.

Type in "reaper" on google, best free/ share DAW availble. I use it. Just scrape some cash togeter and buy Cubase SE.
Squier Classic Vibe Custom
Vox Pathfinder 15R
Fender Jazz Bass

Right, the volume thing's sorted, thanks everyone. I have Cubase but it's way over the top for what I'm doing, and I sort of know how to use Audacity.

One problem I'm now getting is that I'm multitracking, and when I play along with what's already down it's in time. When I play it back, however, the new track is way out. I'm trying to cut the silence before it starts down so they're in time, but what a nightmare to get right. Is there a way of getting rid of the delay so I don't have to mess about?
