Hey guys - I'm selling my crappy Artisan Archtop and looking for something a little more upmarket. I'm looking to go electro-acoustic on this one but wasn't sure on the differences between medium range archtops or the more regular body/soundhole shapes. What are the main tonal differences between the two and is it worth going for an archtop or are they a bit poo in that price range (as I've been told they can be).

I'm looking to spend about £300 - 500 which is about $600+ so any guitar recommendations that I can then go and try out would be much appreciated. Any archtop advice would be particularly appreciated as I really do prefer them to the more standard shape but I'm looking for something that won't get lost in a room and won't sound tinny and poo like my current guitar.

It's a lot to ask in one post but thanks very much folks.

I now apologise for the totally shameless bump but I'm not a guitarist and I really need help on this one.

I've been researching and hate to turn this into a 'what guitar' thread but it looks like it might go that way. Regardless, I was wondering what your opinions on these five guitars are, and if you know any realiable pricing guides as I don't trust what eBay has told me. Okies, here we are:

Ovation CC44 - http://www.ovationguitars.com/index.cfm?fa=detail&mid=1960#
Ovation 1868T - http://www.ovationguitars.com/index.cfm?fa=detail2&mid=759
Hohner ECA800 - http://www.hohnerusa.com/index.php?1495
Gretsch G100BKCE - http://www.gretschguitars.com/gear/index.php?product=G100BKCE&cat1=&cat2=&q=&st=1
And the Aria DQ-CR - http://www.ariaguitars.com/int/03_products/pro_ob_dq_cr.html

At the moment I favour the Ovations and the Aria but can't find any information on how much that Aria would be. Any advice would be appreciated and if any of you have played these, your expertise would be greatly valued.

Thanks.

Personally I don't like ovations, but that seems to be a two-camp kinda thing - either you really like them, or you really don't.

You certainly can't go wrong with a Gretsch, if an arch-top is your fancy. I was looking at that model at one point - liked it, but then a Taylor T5 caught my eye and that was the end of that...

Don't know much about the Honer or Aria- never seen those before.

Sorry if that's kinda shoddy feedback - that's the best I can offer, it didn't look you were getting much otherwise...

Thankyou very much - it's all much appreciated.

I do like the look of the Gretsch, but it's the Aria that really blows my mind - I just can't find anything about it anywhere.

Does anyone else have any info?

EDIT: Just found something on the Aria - WAAAAAAAAY out of my price range. And if I bought it at home, so is the Gretsch. Damn UK prices... Might be able to find it for half the price in America though - snazzy. Any thoughts?
