Just looking for some suggestions on some really easy songs I can teach my girlfriend. She is just starting to learn and I wanted to see if you guys had any suggestions on stuff that she could learn and that she would enjoy playing to boost her confidence and get her excited about playing. She has absolutely no experience except for a couple little things I have taught her and how to make a power chord. Basically, stuff that sounds cool and is really easy, that will make her want to learn more.

BTW if there is a better forum for this let me know

Thanks in advance

Teach her bass lines to songs

I usually teach the 'come as you are' bass line by nirvana to kids...but choose something she might like
Some people wait a lifetime, some simply accept...

...Some of us crash land, some of us eject...

...Some restore the blood flow, some just let it go and bleed...

...Some of us obsess, some move on to something new

A Horse With No Name is really easy to play and sounds pretty cool. Two chords and they're both simple.
Rig

Make sure you teach her an entire song. I'm tired of people saying "look I can play this song", then after the horrible intro they just stop.

House of The Rising sun can teach finger picking skills whilst teaching her some of the basic open chord shapes, so that's always a good'un.

i actually considered that one but she is too new at it. She is literally just starting out, maybe played a total of about 10 times. She wants to learn, but I think the house of the rising sun may be a little advanced for her yet. maybe in a month or two if she sticks with it. thanks

The Cheeky Girls.

TS: It depends on what kind of music she wants to play!

Coldplay's - Don't Panic for easy accoustic.
Metallica's - Seek 'n' Destoy for metal as mentioned earlier.
The Allman Brother's - Jessica for when she wants some lead work.
Blink 182's - Wendy Clear for pop punk
Kate Nash' - Dickhead for the funnies, especialy if she can sing and play!
Type O Negative's - Black No.1 if she likes them...

Good luck to her! Get her on here so she can have all the wonderful information UG has to offer! Just don't tell her about the Pit...

the first songs I learnt were:
Drive, mexico, southern girl - Incubus
enter sandman (the riffs and stuff)
under the bridge- rhcp
nirvana - lake of fire solo, man who sold the world
good riddance - green day (heard it off a friend).
Of course, these are mostly acoustic because I started on an acoustic

I'd reccomend oasis stuff and songs by the beatles. Songs with chords are best. Teach her chords?

dee maybe? sounds easy enough
Gibson SG Special Faded(Super Distortion/PAF Pro)
Carvin V3M
Jet City JCA2112RC

Smoke on the Water for sure. It was everybodys first, lol. Honestly, I would have her search through songs she likes and if she finds a fairly easy one for her skill level, help her learn it. There is nothing worse then learning a song you dont even like.

I don't think she can sweep pick.

I found blackbird by the beatles fairly easy, wasn;t my first song (Heart shaped box)
but it sounds good and is great for finger picking.

It depends on what kind of stuff she likes.

Sunshine Of Your Love could be good, it was the first song I learned and the first one I taught my girlfriend.

You could also try to teach her the White Stripes' version of Jolene, or The Racounteurs' version of Bang Bang. These would be good if she wants to sing too.

You could go for some Beatles songs, or something like that.

And if it helps at all, I taught my girl the hybrid picked bit at the start of Cliffs of Dover. Even though she had to play it pretty slow, and Jeff Healey-style, she found it really fun to play.

Lonely Day(-the solo) by SoaD is really easy and sounds cool.
