Sorry if its been posted, but this is cool enough for a repost anyways.

If you follow all the directions you should be able to remove the vocals from any song in stereo with audacity. Any song you want can be an instrumental.

This would probably help people tab songs as well.

note: it might remove the bass a bit

With the inversion and that? Discovered it by accident myself once actually

It only works if the vocals are centred though, and in most cases that also kills your drums. So it's not all that great.

most people know this trick, but there are a lot of things it doesn't work on, depending on how the vocals are mixed and whether or not the song has backing vocals.

i do it a lot. ill be playin somethin and i forget to close my mouth... sometimes its really bad, slobber everywhere. i goes mostly over the neck, on the higher frets, and its really hard to get out from under the strings.

Tried it with Enter Sandman and it didn't work at all.

EDIT: Got it to work with Seasons in the Abyss though.

yeah unless the vocals are panned dead center then it won't work, it will also cut out anything else that's been panned dead center.

I noticed something similar to this with my crappy old mp3 player. If you unplug the headphones slightly, the tracks would mix sort of like this, and pretty much the only thing you can hear is the guitar.
#14
tried with children of bodom's self-titled track, still heard it.

the only thing i noticed was quieter vocals and almost no bass

Or insteda of this long winded process just use audition and click remove vocals.
I've been here since '04.

You're right. Doesn't work at all for Protest the Hero.

What squirrel? =\

On a side note, it only works for certain songs obviously.

But for those songs, it'd be great for tabbing out guitar.
But then so is Guitar Hero.
